Remo Stars FC suffered the second heaviest defeat this season in the 3-0 loss to J. Atete FC at the Otujeremi Stadium in match-day eighteen of the Nigeria National League.
Head Coach Daniel Ogunmodede, made two (2) changes to the starting line up as Akinsanmiro Ebenezer and Dada Oladimeji got the nod to start ahead of Adedayo Olamilekan and Adah Mathias.
The host started brilliantly and it was Samson Edje who made the first attempt to give his side the lead but Bankole Kayode was alert to parry the ball in the early minutes of the game.
The Sky Blue Stars grew gradually into the game with Oyedele Adebayo almost putting the ball at the back of the net but his effort was well punched out of play by Joke Efevwerha.
Thirty minutes into the game after Goalie Bankole Kayode brilliantly made some saves, Oyedele Adebayo was presented with a golden opportunity to give the visitors the lead after a long pass went past J-Atete goalie, Joke Efevwerha but his weak shot was cleared off the line by Okeku Daniel.
J. Atete continued to press harder and it almost paved way as Edowor God’stime took a brilliant freekick but once again Bankole Kayode had to stretch to the fullest to deny his attempt.
The visitors continued to give the host a run for their money after Akinsanmiro Ebenezer’s pass located Dada Oladimeji on the right, he squared towards Agbeko Morgan but his attempt went inches over the bar.
The Sky Blue Stars had another opportunity to go ahead after a beautiful exchange of passes between Ogunribide Oluwaseun and Akinsanmiro Ebenezer, Ogunribide Oluwaseun took a shot and it went directly into the hands of Joke Efevwerha.
The breakthrough finally came for the host after Uche Otuye connected well to a free kick from Samson Edje, he calmly directed his header into the net to give his side the lead before the end of the first 45minutes.
The stars continued to find a leveller after a fast free kick was taken towards Ogunribide Oluwaseun, he tried to locate a man in his teemate but nobody was close to compliment his effort.
J. Atete doubled their lead in the 60th minute after Harrison Obakpowobo connected well to a corner kick taken by Uche Otuye and he nodded home to make it 2nil for the host.
Minutes later, the defence crumbled once again as Edowor God’stime rounded things up for his side after he met a beautiful cross from Roland Okhethe to increase the lead and put the host in a comfortable position in the game.
Remo Stars continued to make efforts to reduce the deficit, Adah Mathias did a beautiful job to get a pass to Victor Osuagwu but his attempt went inches wide.
The Stars became more aggressive on the field of play after Agbeko Morgan sent a low pass to Adah Mathias, his one time shot forced Joke Efevwerha into making a save for his side.
Chances continued to pour in as Agbeko Morgan with a good pass down to Victor Osuagwu, who did a decent job finding his way past his marker to reduce the deficit but Joke Efevwerha was sure of a clean sheet.
A loose pass went Agbeko Morgan’s way, he dribbled his marker to make things easy for Adah Mathias but he took the shot hurriedly and it went over the bar.
Joke Efevwerha seemed to be the saviour for the host with numerous saves, Akinsanmiro Ebenezer tried his luck after a corner kick from Ogunribide Oluwaseun landed in his path, his strike was well saved and the goalkeeper denied the stars yet again to keep a clean sheet for his side.
Next for the Sky Blue Stars is a south west derby against Crown FC at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo in match-day nineteen scheduled to take place next weekend.
