Remo Stars Forward, Samuel Anakwe scored a brilliant clinching goal as the Sky Blue Stars secured a narrow 1-0 win over former Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Plateau United.
The Head Coach of Remo Stars, Gbenga Ogunbote made four (4) changes to his side that played out a 1-1 draw against Dakkada FC in Uyo last weekend.
The Sky Blue Stars started the game early with Samuel Anakwe having a good attempt to put the host ahead after he received a well-grounded pass from Dayo Ojo but his chance went wide.
Remo Stars continued to mount pressure on the visitors and it yielded with a free kick, Seun Ogunribide took brilliantly but Samuel Anakwe nodded wide this time.
Good combination of play from Andy Okpe to Stanley Okorom, he located Samuel Anakwe upfront but the visitors’ defenders clear and the ball went directly to Adedayo Olamilekan who took at once but it went inches over the bar.
The visitors continued to withhold the pressure, they break with a beautiful exchange of passes to locate Akila Jesse but his attempt was too weak to go past Kayode Bankole.
The Sky Blue Stars resumed brilliantly in the second half, they kept on answering questions from the visitors defense and finally it yielded as Adedayo Olamilekan’s powerful header went into the box of the visitors and Samuel Anakwe made no mistake by giving the host the deserved lead with a fine header.
Pleateau United continued to push for an equaliser as Samuel Mathias took a lofty corner kick but Kayode Bankole was very active to punch off play.
The Sky Blue Stars looked to double their lead after Qudus Akanni was introduced, he received a good pass from Andy Okpe after he had gotten his way past two defenders but his attempt went wide.
Plateau United dominated the final stages but Nonrot Silas couldn’t convert in the closing minutes of the game to give the peace boys a point.
Next for the Sky Blue is a trip to Bauchi to face Wikki Tourist in matchday six (6) of the ongoing 2021/2022 NPFL season.
