Remo Stars Football Club (RSFC) continued their impressive performance with a 1-0 victory over Abia Warriors on matchday seven (7) of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
Head Coach of the Sky Blue Stars, Gbenga Ogunbote named an unchanged team that defeated Wikki Tourists in far away Northeast, Bauchi State.
The hosts started brilliantly with an early attempt from Ifegwu Ojukwu but the goalkeeper, Pius Ibrahim denied him and just immediately, Samuel Anakwe had his opportunity, but he flipped it over the bar.
Another close chance came for the Sky Blue Stars in the twentieth minute after Seun Ogunribide took a corner kick, it deflected towards Andy Okpe who took at once but Anaeto Odinaka denied the host the lead with a line clearance.
The Sky Blue Stars continued to push harder to get a goal and another opportunity surfaced for the host after Seun Ogunribide laid a low pass towards Dayo Ojo, he took at once and his chance went over the bar.
The second half commenced with the Sky Blue Stars aiming to go ahead, Samuel Anakwe got a chance to get us the lead but his attempt went wide and the search for a goal continued.
Abia Warriors got fair of their chance through Innocent Gabriel as he delivered a good cross from the blind side but nobody was close to convert for Abia Warriors.
Mercurial Midfielder, Dayo Ojo put the host in front of a sublime finish after Seun Ogunribide took corner kick that deflected towards him, and he beautifully slots in.
Remo Stars continued to push to increase their tally as Ifegwu Ojukwu made a good run with the ball on the line, he sent in a cross both nobody was close to double the lead for the Sky Blue Stars.
Captain of Abia Warriors, Paul Sampson had a chance to equaliser for the visitors but Kayode Bankole was calm enough to deny their best of opportunity.
Sunday Williams with a beautiful buildup, sent a good pass to Andy Okpe, he returned the pass to Dayo Ojo who took the shoot at once but the ball went over the bar, should have been the second goal for the mercurial midefider.
In the final minutes of the game, Sunday Williams dragged the ball inside the 18 yards box of the opponent, he squared the ball towards goal but Qudus Akanni couldn’t put the ball into an empty net to double the lead for Remo Stars.
The victory returned the Sky Blue Stars to the top of the table with seventeen points and 2 points ahead of the closest rival, Rivers United who got maximum points against MFM FC on Wednesday.
Next for the Sky Blue Stars is a trip to the Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium in Nnewi to faceoff with Rangers International in matchday eight (8) of the NPFL.
