Remo Stars Football Club (RSFC) continued their unbeaten record in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with a 1-0 victory over southwest rivals, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC).
It was the matchday 11 of the NPFL and Remo Stars welcomed the Oluyole Warriors to the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
Head Coach, Gbenga Ogunbote made two changes to his side that started the game against Kano Pillars at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna as he reintroduced Seun Ogunribide and Ifegwu Ojukwu into his starting XI.
The visitors started like a horse on fire as Kolawole Daniel had the attempt to put the Oluyole Warriors in front of the early minutes, but he fired his opportunity wide.
The host had a fair share few minutes later as Stanley Okorom took a corner kick, it went directly to the head of Andy Okpe and Ifegwu Ojukwe had another header that flipped over the bar.
The Sky Blue Stars continued to mount pressure on the visitors as the Sky Blue Stars got a freekick, Junior Nduka took a low pass down to Seun Ogunribide but the attempt deflected down the right.
In the 23rd minute, Shooting Stars had a chance to go ahead through Asejubu Ayo after he profitted from a counter-attack, he dribbled Kayode Bankole to slot in but Adebayo Abayomi threw his body to the line to head out.
Immediately, Dayo Ojo got a pass down to Stanley Okorom, he sent in a cross to locate Andy Okpe but his header went wide.
The Oluyole Warriors resumed the second half all blazing as they pushed to go ahead, they took a free kick and it went over the bar.
The Sky Blue Stars continued to find the opening as Seun Ogunribide took a long throw into the visitors final third and Andy Okpe heads it over the bar.
Captain of Remo Stars, Junior Nduka finally gave the host the lead with a sublime freekick from 25 yards after Dayo Ojo was earlier infringed.
Shooting Stars then kept on pushing to get an immediate reply after Akilu Muhammad took a free kick that went wide.
Remo Stars looked to double their lead as Dayo Ojo located Stanley Okorom on the right, he sent in a cross and Andy Okpe head wide.
The Sky Blue Stars kept on to mount pressure on the visitors as Ifegwu Ojukwu dribbled his marker to locate Andy Okpe but the ball went Seun Ogunribide’s way, he took at once but the ball traveled wide.
This looked like the equalizer for the Visitors as they got a freekick on the edge of the box, Akilu Muhammad took and it was saved by the woodwork.
The visitors continued to find an equalizer but it looked abortive and Remo Stars picked all three points against the Oluyole Warriors at the end of the day.
With the victory, Remo Stars returned to the top of the summit, they remained unbeaten in the ongoing NPFL season and next for them is a trip to the north to face Gombe United on the 13th of February 2022.
