Remo Stars Football Club (RSFC) are seeking to return to winning ways as they welcome former Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Akwa United to the Remo Stars FC stadium for Wednesday evening’s clash.
Although, the Sky Blue Stars will be playing without their supporters for this first time this season after the league body placed a one-match closed door punishment on them.
The Sky Blue Stars’ most recent top-flight battle saw them lose 1-0 to Gombe United for this first time this season, while Akwa United played out a 0-0 draw against Heartland FC in Uyo.
While Remo Stars head into the contest in Ikenne as third position, the host will fight for a win to return to the top of the log, Akwa United are currently eighth with 17points on the log.
This will be the third encounter between both sides as the visitors got the better of Remo Stars by a goal after Newman Musa comfortably converted to give them all three points in Uyo.
In the reverse fixture, both sides played out a 2-2 draw after Victor Mbaoma actually put the Sky Blue Stars ahead in the early stages before Ubong Friday leveled up with a fine finish, Newman Musa doubled the lead and Victor Mbaoma got a brace to end it all square at the Gateway Stadium, Sagamu.
Akwa United will be without their Technical Adviser, Kennedy Boboye after he quit his roles at the club when they played their third consecutive draw against Heartland.
The Sky Blue Stars will keep faith in Andy Okpe, Dayo Ojo, Qudus Akanni, Adedayo Olamilekan, Junior Nduka, Isah Ali and Kayode Bankole.
Head Coach, Gbenga Ogunbote will be without club’s highest goalscorer last season, Agbeko Morgan who is still recuperating alongside Samuel Anakwe who is also out for few weeks.
The backline of Remo Stars should be weary of Ubong Friday who has been with the club for seven years alongside Dele Ajiboye, Ezekiel Bassay and former Remo Stars winger, David Onovo.
A win for the Sky Blue Stars will return them to the top of the summit, while a draw will further bring them down the log but a defeat will drop them to the middle of the log.
