Former Remo Stars Foootball Club (RSFC) players, Victor Mbaoma and Ekene Awazie score to give Enyimba the maximum points against the Sky Blue Stars at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
Head Coach, Gbenga Ogunbote made just a change to the starting XI as Ifegwu Ojukwu replaced Oyedele Abdullahi in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 16.
Victor Mbaoma tried opening the scoring for the People’s Elephants but his attempt went wide and the Sky Blue Stars seemed lucky for not conceeding early.
The Sky Blue Stars had their own opportunity after Dayo Ojo located Ifegwu Ojukwu who returned to him immediately, he tried to find space upfront to put his side ahead but it went straight into the hands of John Noble.
Enyimba had a corner kick, Samuel Kalu took, it went towards Ekene Awazie who tried to find his way past Qudus Akanni, but he denied him.
Dayo Ojo continued his wonderful display for Remo Stars as he sent a beautiful pass down Ifegwu Ojukwu, he took but John Noble saved his attempt.
Andy Okpe received a long pass upfront, he sighted a coming John Noble who redrew immediately, Andy Okpe tried to get the ball past him, but he parried it for a corner kick.
The People’s Elephants had another opportunity to go ahead as Samuel Kalu took a free kick and nobody could convert, the opportunity fell on Fatai Abdullahi who blast the ball over the bar.
Victor Mbaoma finally put Enyimba in front as he connected well to pass from Fatai Abdullahi, he calmly found space to put the ball at the back of the net.
The second half resumed as the Sky Blue Stars looked to get an equaliser early but it was the home side who doubled their lead through Ekene Awazie after he beautifully connected a cross from Samuel Stone.
Victor Mbaoma continued to mount pressure on his former side as he tried to get a brace for himself, he fell to the ground but the loose ball went Fatai Abdullahi’s way who took at once but it went wide.
The Sky Blue Stars continued to push to reduce the deficit as Lekan Adedayo sighted Andy Okpe but his header went over the bar.
Ifegwu Ojukwu pushed so hard to reduce the deficit after he received a lofty pass, he tried to shoot, but he was fouled and Junior Nduka converted the spot kick to keep the Sky Blue Stars in the game.
The host got an opportunity through Abdulwasiu Mamud to increase their tally yet again but located Samuel Stone but his attempt went wide.
Adedayo Olamilekan kept the hope alive for the Sky Blue Stars after he made a clearance that could have been a good goal for Cyril Olisema.
The Sky Blue Stars continued to push for an equaliser but didn’t come forth and next for Remo Stars is a southwest derby against Sunshine Stars on Sunday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
