Remo Stars on Friday were crowned winners of the maiden Value Jet Pre-Season Cup Tournament held at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following the club’s opening Group A 2-1 win over Ijebu United with a brace from new signing, Adams Olamilekan. The team proceeded to defeat last season’s league runners up, Plateau Utd 1-0 via a late Nduka Junior’s freekick.
In the third group game, a southwest derby against Shooting Stars Adams Olamilekan scored yet again while further goals were added by Edidiong Ezekiel and Aniekeme Okon to see out a 3-1 win after going down a goal inside two minutes of play.
In an inconsequential fixture and with qualification sealed, a second team XI lost 2-0 to Vandrezzer FC.
On the semi final, Remo Stars faced fellow CAF Confederation Cup representative, Kwara Utd in a dramatic game that was settled via a 4-2 penalty shootout win after a 93rd minute equalizer by Edidiong Ezekiel that left Kwara Utd stunned.
Remo Stars did win the final 3-0 against Smart City FC to cap off an interesting pre season tournament for the team in which they showed what to expect from the Coach Daniel Ogunmodede led side.
The goals in the final were scored off the boot of Adams Olamilekan with a brace sandwiched between a Salaudeen own goal as our winger finished the tournament with highest goal scorer gong.
