Remo Stars returned to winning ways in the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League following their 3-0 defeat at Bendel Insurance with a 1-0 victory over Enyimba FC of Aba on Sunday.
The Matchday five fixture played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne saw Coach Daniel Ogunmodede made three changes to the side as Qudus Akanni, Andy Okpe and Dayo Ojo made way for Samuel Anakwe, Edidiong Ezekiel and Seth Mayi.
Samuel Anakwe would pay the coach’s faith in him as he scored with only 17secs on the clock.
The winger stabbed home from close range after being set up by Edidiong Ezekiel from the left.
In the 16th minute, Aniekeme Okon cuts in field, shoots but had John Noble keeping out his effort.
John Noble was fortunate not to be sent off when he came outside his box to touch the ball but was only shown a yellow card with Nduka Junior shooting straight at him from the resulting free-kick, the phase of playing coming in the 26th minute.
Two minute after the half hour mark, Abayomi Adebayo shot from range, had John Noble spilling the ball but Edidiong Ezekiel couldn’t pounce.
In the 38th minute, Seth Mayi ghost past two white shirts and aimed for the top corner but Noble came up with a good save.
John Noble was again called into action when he brilliantly tipped over a Samuel Anakwe’s header in the 53rd minute after good work from Aniekeme Okon on the right.
Five minutes after the hour mark, Edidiong Ezekiel tried to flick the ball home but he couldn’t connect cleanly to Abdulrasheed Awoyemi’s cross.
Two minutes after, the gaffer ringed three changes as Edidiong Ezekiel, Seth Mayi and Aniekeme Okon came off for Andy Okpe, Qudus Akanni and Godwin Odibo.
Samuel Anakwe sent a cross to Godwin Odibo who couldn’t hit beyond John Noble but at him, as the goalkeeper ensured Enyimba left Ikenne with just a goal conceded.
Remo Stars will now travel to Uyo to face off against Akwa United on Sun. 5th Feb. 2023.
