For the first time in the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League season, Remo Stars FC host Rangers International at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
It is one of the Matchday 2 fixtures and the first for the Sky Blue Stars this season due to Continental engagement of Rivers United last weekend.
The game which is scheduled for the 8th of October 2023 will be the first time in 2 years both sides will face off in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
This encounter will be the seventh meeting between both sides with the Sky Blue winning just one, drawn three and lost two in their previous encounters.
The Sky Blue Stars is delighted to have Sikiru Alimi who scored the only goal for Remo Stars in the last meeting against the Flying Antelopes in Ikenne-Remo back in the squad for this season after he spent his last season with rival club, Shooting Stars of Ibadan.
While the Sky Blue Stars didn’t play last weekend, Enugu Rangers played and defeated Doma United 2-1 in the first game of the season with Kalu Nweke and Austine Onyemachi scoring to give the flying Antelopes their first three points this season.
On a X space press conference with Head Coach Daniel Ogunmodede, he says his target is to move a step ahead by winning the league this season. “We want to move a step ahead by winning the Nigeria Premier Football League, we came 2nd last season losing to Enyimba FC on goal difference and anything short of winning the league this season won’t be appreciated.”
Remo Stars will be without ten of their key players due to illness and injuries but hopeful to pull out results as they face the flying antelopes come Sunday.
“Some of our players are injured and won’t be available for the game against Rangers International, the likes of Isah Ali, Victor Collins, Seth Mayi, Borniface Nwaneze, Abayomi Adebayo,Ayomide Ogungbe, Seun Odunsi amongst others while Fabian Nworie is down due to malaria.
On the promotion of players from the academy, Coach Daniel Ogunmodede insisted that players promoted are based on merit and will be available for the clash against Rangers International.
“We are not promoting from Beyond Limits Academy for promoting sake, they are promoted , the young lads are ready. Those that deserve to start will get the chance” Daniel Ogunmodede.
