Goals from Alex Oyowah and Andy Okpe proved decisive for Rivers United in their 2-0 victory over Remo Stars in a rescheduled match day one fixture in the Nigeria Premier Football League at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The game started slowly for both sides as Alex Oyowah got their first goal from the spot after the referee adjourned Junior Nduka to have handled the ball in his own box, he stepped up and sent Kayode Bankole the wrong way.
15 minutes into the game, the Sky Blue Stars picked themselves up to get an equalizer through Adedayo Olamilekan after he connected well to Sodiq Ismail’s cross but, he headed it inches wide.
Samuel Anakwe and Adams Olamilekan were introduced for Samad Kadiri and Seun Ogunribide in the 59th minute, they combined well minutes later to level things up but the opportunity wasn’t converted.
Six minutes to the end of the game, Samuel Anakwe and Franck Muawena make beautiful passes amongst themselves but Abiodun Akande denied the attempt.
On the dot of 90 minutes, Andy Okpe converted a screamer that doubled the lead for the Pride of Rivers after a little error from Ahmed Akinleye.
Next for Remo Stars is a trip to Yenagoa Township Stadium to play Bayelsa United in one of the matchday three fixtures in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
