A captivating clash of the Southwest should be in store during Sunday’s the Nigeria Premier Football League (NFL) fixture, as Remo Stars welcome Sporting Lagos to the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.
The Sky Blue Stars face the Noisy Neighbours for the first time in the Nigeria Premier Football League in what is termed as an entertaining encounter considering their styles of play.
Both sides were unbeaten in their last fixture, as Daniel Ogunmodede’s side picked up a convincing win in faraway Yenagoa, while neighbours Paul Offor’s team shared the spoils with Doma United in Lagos.
The Sky Blue Stars, the first and the only team to have picked maximum points on the road is geared up towards having a chance to go on top of the log for the very first time this season bearing in mind that they have to tidy up their game with a decent win against the noisy neighbours.
Sporting Lagos are the only side in the league this season who have played all three games and yet to concede a single goal since they gained promotion into the NPFL.
Both sides have never met in the NPFL, but have met a couple of times in the preseason tournaments with the Sky Blue Stars winning two ( last two editions of the Valuejet Preseason Tournaments) and Sporting Lagos also winning one (Group Stage of Naija Super 8), drawn just one.
One thing going in favour of the Sky Blue Stars is that they are yet to lose a game to any southwest team in the last nine meetings with Remo Stars winning seven and have drawn two.
An interesting encounter awaits as former players of Remo Stars, Godwin Odibo and Junior Lokosa have joined the noisy neighbours and are set to make the list against their former employers in Ikenne.
A couple of players will be missing in action for this fixture as the clubs await the fitness of compact defender, Isah Ali, Victor Collins, Fabian Nworie, Seun Odunsi Ayomide Ogungbe and others.
A win for the Sky Blue Stars will see them maintain their title ‘King of Southwest’ and will make it ten unbeaten games against the southern teams and also take them to the top of the table for the first time this season.
