Remo Stars suffered a narrow loss to Bendel Insurance in Matchday 7 of the Nigeria Premier Football League held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin-City.
It was the hosts that started brightly and had couple of chances before the Sky Blue Stars gradually crept into the game.
Ismael Sariki give the Benin Arsenals the lead in the 25th minute after he brilliantly doubled his marker before putting the ball at the back of the net.
The first half continued with little attempts from both sides, but it ended with the Sky Blue Stars trailing till the end of the game.
Remo Stars began the second half beautiful as they had multiple chances that weren’t converted by Sikiru Alimi, Franck Muawena and Samad Kadiri.
In the 77th minute, Sikiru Alimi git another chance to put the game on level terms but he narrowly missed an open net chance following a through pass from Sodiq Ismail and his opportunity went wide.
Few minutes later, Jide Fatokun scored a screamer but the referee ruled it off from no clear reason and the lads continued to find the equaliser but didn’t come as the game ended with Bendel Insurance claiming all three points.
In a chat with Remo Stars Head Coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, he says quite surprised that Jide Fatokun’s goal didn’t stand and it cost the team all three points.
“He maintained that it was the duty of the referees to be firm in their decisions as they are the ones who follow and see the players and their actions than other persons.”
