Sikiru Alimi scored twice and provided an assist as Remo Stars beat Gombe United 4-0 in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.
The breakthrough and last goal came in the 27th and 84th minute through Sikiru Alimi, before Franck Mawuena and Aniekeme Okon netted to hand the Sky Blue Stars a comfortable win.
Six minutes after the first goal, Franck Mawuena doubled the lead for the host from Dayo Ojo off Ahmed Akinyele’s cross.
The Sky Blue Stars continued to mount pressure on the visitors as Imo Ikemdinachi got a clear chance to increase the lead but he headed over the bar.
The visitors had their first chance at goal in the closing minutes of the first half but Kayode Bankole was at alert to keep the danger away from him.
Two then became three in the 58th minute, with Aniekeme Okon firing into the back of the net from inside the box following a beautiful pass from Sikiru Alimi in the middle of Gombe United defence.
On the dot of 80 minutes, Adams Olamilekan scored a beautiful effort but the referee ruled his goal offside to maintain the scoreline at that level.
Remo Stars scored their fourth in the 83rd minute, though, with Sikiru Alimi brilliantly picking out three yellow shirts to slot home his second of the day and takes his tally to seven goals in six games for the Sky Blue Stars.
Remo Stars’ attention will now switch to the next game with Akwa United heading to Eket Township Stadium on Sunday in Uyo, while Gombe United will be bidding to bounce back from the disappointing result when they host Niger Tornadoes next Saturday.
